All a nurse want is a genuine smile...

After taking care of her for a whole day,  she (88 years old) asked me what she can do for me because I had been too sweet for her. I smiled and asked for a big smile, she gave me a big smile (true, genuine) that made my day. I saw my grandma behind that smiling face and my grandma was (proudly) smiling with me for great work I am doing. This is what a nurse can do, can be satisfied with genuine smile and get happy when they make their patients happy

This is what a nurse do for living

I save lives for living. I usually eat lunch @ 4:00 PM because I make sure that you had your lunch, even sometimes supper and you had taken all your medication before I eat something. I drag my feet due to pain but I still have smile in my face because your pain is relieved although I had an argument with doctor to get pain medication ordered. I always hold to go to bathroom because I am in process of giving you an enema. I teach you and encourage you to drink plenty of water although I don't even have time to take a sip of water during the whole shift. This is what nurse do for living what you do...........

Can build trust by letting go negative perception towards us

She asked me to call a nurse to replace her mask with nasal cannula, told her that I was a nurse and I can change it, after taking the mask out she chewed on me, was angry, and said that's why we need a nurse (RN), was still angry with me, asked me to check her oxygen level, I did checked and was perfect (99%), after she calmed down I asked her what kind of nurse she was looking for. She replied, an RN, showed my batch that was hanging on my scrub that recognized myself as RN. All of sudden her perception was changed. I left the room, went to bathroom and cried since I was hurt by her harsh words, it was not easy to handle. Came back to the room, gave her medication, she was sorry for me, I had forgotten her behavior long time ago. That was my third day taking care of her but we build the trust after that bitter experience. I did forget everything and moved forward to give a good care of her who hurt my feeling and made me cry. We can rebuild a great relationship with patience and unselfish care by letting go anything bitter, this is what nurse can do.

Nurses are saving lives

Nurses are being scorned for being late with medicine, and yet they are holding their bladder because they don't have time to use the restroom, and starving because they missed lunch. They are being peed on, puked on, pooped on, bled on, bitten, hit, yelled at and are missing their family whole taking care of yours. They even be crying for you and saving lives forgetting and leaving anything behind. This is what nurse can do.

Can work outside the comfort zone

I can't stand alcoholics, I can't stand vomit early in morning, I want to say yuck when I smell poop due to c-deff, but when I leave the house with my scrubs on.. all my comfort zones are left behind along with my house cloth and end up loving all, because I have learned how to live and work outside my comfort zone.... this is what a nurse can do....
